BEAR - CIPOLLA, COLE, LEMAY, MARTIN

Presenting both established and emerging artists in this exhibition Canada House Gallery offers a diverse glimpse at a loved and revered subject – BEAR. Situated in Canada’s First National Park and a World UNESCO Heritage site, we adore all that makes our place sacred, and that includes our wildlife. Bears represent the whole of nature, and we cherish their safety, their habitat, their future.

Richard Cole and Robert Lemay have been anchor artists at CHG for years, yet the BEAR is a relatively new subject for them. We are pleased to welcome emerging artists, Susie Cipolla & Sarah Martin to the gallery and our collectors and show how BEAR inspires them in their work.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards WildSmart; a program of the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley, a non-profit charitable organization. Established in 2005, WildSmart is a proactive conservation strategy that encourages efforts by communities to reduce negative human-wildlife interactions. Their goal is to develop a coordinated approach to education/outreach programs and help support direct management activities that will aid in increasing public safety and enjoyment as well as contribute towards sustainable wildlife populations.

The funds that you will be donating to WildSmart will be used to recruit and train new volunteers for their Wildlife Ambassador Program. Come meet Nick de Ruyter, WildSmart Education and Outreach Coordinator, at the reception.

Susie first broke into the art world at the age of seven, winning a bicycle in a Dairyland colouring contest. After that, art languished on life’s back burner while she finished school and pursued a career in physiotherapy. In 2009, at the urging of a friend, she took a painting workshop with Canadian artist Brian Atyeo. Discovering a new passion in painting was life changing for her.

Over the last eight years Susie has committed herself to improving her skills as a professional artist. She spends her days with her family on their rural property. Her art studio sits next to the horse corale and overlooks their ninety year old farmhouse. Susie’s studio provides a sanctuary for her to create works of art and to provide a venue for visiting artist instructors.

The local scenery is stunning, with towering mountains, flat farmland, old buildings, wildlife and farm animals in abundance. Her subject matter and inspiration for painting will never run out. Susie’s preferred painting medium is acrylic and her subject matter is varied. She is known for her marine scenes, landscapes and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest Region. She is represented in Canada by Galleries in British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec.

In 2015, Susie won the Grand Prize, at the Federation Of Canadian Artists Signature Medal Show, for her rendering of a West Coast fishing vessel.

Susie is a Senior Signature Member (SFCA) and a past Board member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She is a founding member of The Whistler Out Of Bounds Artist Group.
