Sabina Hill

Sabina was born in 1960 and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She graduated from the University of British Columbia School of Architecture with honors in 1993 and set up her own boutique practice, Sabina Hill Design, where she designs custom homes, renovations, interiors and landscapes. Her first commission was to design a custom home for her Uncle, Richard Hill and his wife Sandi, owners of Yellow Point Lodge on Vancouver Island. Sabina's grandfather built the original lodge in the nineteen thirties.

Sabina's design philosophy focuses on creating works that capture the essence of Pacific Northwest Coast culture. Her original custom furniture and art merges the rich mythology of the Northwest Coast with a contemporary design aesthetic. Her works, handcrafted from exotic and British Columbian woods, are combined with precision cut metal and glass, and are authenticated limited edition pieces of museum quality that capture the imagination as they evoke the natural beauty of the Northwest Coast. By integrating First Nations motifs in her designs, she creates pieces that are uniquely expressive of her home, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

A laser engraved Beaver logo is inlaid into the limited edition and commissioned pieces as authentication. Sabina selected the Beaver as her company logo as she identifies with the creature that can best be described as 'the architect of the animal world.' Sabina says, "The time is right to merge and move design and artistry in new and exciting directions."

Designer Sabina Hill, in collaboration with First Nations artists, creates original custom furniture and art which merges the rich mythology of the Northwest Coast with a contemporary design aesthetic. Her works, handcrafted from local and imported solid woods that are combined with precision cut metal and glass, are authenticated limited edition and commission pieces of museum quality that evoke the natural beauty of the northwest coast.

The recently launched Dwell Collection features highly sculptural tables which introduce motifs cut in solid 1 1/2" thick walnut with ebonized inlays and include organic shaped glass tops. This latest collection showcases an ever expanding palette of materials which reflects Hill's highly unique, collectible and evolving design aesthetic.

The New Spirit Collection, launched in 2007, introduced bold saturated colours, rich high gloss finishes and exotic woods. Previously, her Formlines Collection of both limited and open edition pieces was introduced in 2004, and featured Douglas fir and alder, woods native to British Columbia; select pieces from this first collection are available.

Original native motifs are designed by First Nations artist's Andy Everson (Comox-Kwakwaka'wakw) and Steve Smith (Kwakwaka'wakw). Commissions for individual clients are created upon request.
