Doug Zilkie

Doug Zilke was born in Comox, B.C. in 1961. He began carving in the Haida style at sixteen years of age. Zilkie has worked with such renowned artists as Bill Reid, Don Yeomans and Glen Rabena.

He was employed by Bill Reid on numerous projects and monumental commissions such as "The Spirit of Haida Gwaii" for the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. where he was the finishing carver for the plaster from which the cast was made. He is featured along with Bill Reid in the now out of print publication titled "The Black Canoe".

Zilkie works in a variety of mediums including wood, bronze, silver, stone and graphics. He is a respected screen printer and has cut stencils for many Northwest Coast prints. His NWC wooden panels are highly sought after by international collectors.
