CHATTERBOX FALLS PATTERN PRINCESS LOUISA INLET JUNE 9 2006
Chatterbox Falls tumbles thunderously into the very top end of Princess Louisa Inlet. We sat there for two days aboard Tom Stockdill’s MV Mareva. The first sketches took in the mist and the realism of the unique biotic zone that exists around the falls. Larger paintings emerged from the first sketched, then, as is usual with me, a more contrived design takes over and the formal, painterly elements come to the fore. This is one of the latter type. In the process of "learning” an environment, especially a microcosm like Chatterbox, the material subsided into its more abstract qualities until the theme runs its natural course and is played out. |
