The Inuit have always mentioned the appearance of another group of people who lived in their area before they did. They were known as the Tunnit and were very big and strong, but gentle people. They were able to pick up large boulders and throw them far distances. They also showed their strength when hunting and lifting animals especially caribou, walrus, bears and musk ox.
This print depicts that hunter roping the walrus around the neck in readiness to haul it home. Because of his strength, the hunter is able to effortlessly drag the walrus off the beach as if it was the weight of a seal. |
