I REMEMBER SEEING THE OILERS PLAY MANY TIMES IN THEIR GLORY DAYS, WHEN TICKETS WERE INEXPENSIVE AND THE WHOLE THING SEEMED SMALLER AND MORE INTIMATE. WAYNE ALWAYS SEEMED MODEST AND UNASSUMING, UNLIKE SO MANY INTERNATIONAL SPORTS STARS. AGAIN THIS SEEMS A CANADIAN TRAIT AND A VIRTUE FROM A PRE-INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA TIME.
Lemay’s work combines the imagery of fashion magazines with the techniques of the masters to create a style he calls Pop Realism, reinvigorating figure painting with an exploration of modern fashion and celebrity culture. Uniquely, the artist divides the canvas into a grid, painting square by square, row by row to create a subtly digitized effect which is completely hand-painted. All works are oil on canvas.
